During 30 June – 3 July 2025, the Department of International Economic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Guangzhou, organised the “Thailand–Guangdong Medical & Health Cooperation” programme in Guangzhou and Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, People’s Republic of China. The programme aimed to enhance cooperation between Thailand and China in the fields of healthcare and medicine, and to support Thailand as a leading medical and wellness hub. It also sought to strengthen networks between government agencies, private companies, and universities from both countries to improve the medical and healthcare supply chain.

The programme attracted strong interest and active participation from key stakeholders in Thailand’s medical sector. These included the Eastern Economic Corridor Office (EECO), top medical faculties from leading Thai universities, the Private Hospital Association of Thailand, as well as medical innovation companies and health tech startups.
A highlight of the programme was a seminar commemorating the 50th anniversary of Thailand–China diplomatic relations, under the theme “Thailand–China Advanced Therapy and Healthcare Technology Cooperation”. On this occasion, three MOUs were signed between Thai and Chinese private entities to promote cooperation in areas such as gene editing therapy, biological manufacturing platforms, and the application of AI in medical research. In addition, a panel discussion titled “Unlocking Medical Tourism Opportunity” was held to exchange perspectives and strategies for advancing the health and wellness tourism industry between Thailand and China.

Participants also had the opportunity to visit leading Chinese healthcare institutions and medical technology companies, including Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Clifford Hospital, KingMed Diagnostics, Shenzhen Leaguer, Axbio Biotechnology, Xbiome, Mindray, Huawei, and Tencent.
The “Thailand–Guangdong Medical & Health Cooperation” programme is part of the Department of International Economic Affairs’ mission to advance proactive economic diplomacy by fostering health cooperation and promoted related research and education at both regional and international levels, with the ultimate goal of enhancing Thailand’s healthcare services and supporting the country’s aspiration to become a regional and global medical and wellness hub.
